Today was shopping, touring and relaxing. Our tour guide took us to the main square where a lot of WW2 history took place (Hitler lived in Linz). The city hall’s floor was a very large map of greater Linz. This gave us a good sense of where things are (like coin shops, yarn shops and jewelry shops). We took full advantage of all three. In the afternoon some went back to the shops and others to the “Future Museum” which was all about tech. Then another great meal with good friends and new friends.

This morning we toured Passau. Our guide is a high school teacher. We passed by a gymnasium ( high school) and learned about education in Germany. It is paid for by tax on corporations. The baroque church housed the world largest pipe organ. There was a concert at noon but we opted to skip it. We heard later that it was loud and complicated. We passed by the prince archbishop’s palace and back to the boat. There we saw a demo on how to make Apfel Streudel and a lecture all about Mozart. In the afternoon we departed on our river cruise to Linz traveling through three locks. We arrived in Linz just before sunset

In the morning we did another tour of a different area of Salzburg. We then took a bus ride to Passau making several stops of historical interest, or rather the back story of the Sound of Music. The gazebo was on the site of the Prince bishop’s hunting lodge, the baron’s home was año their hunting lodge and the wedding venue was a beautiful church in Mons. The author of a book on the making of the Sound of Music was our guide and we got chapter and verse. The bus continued through the Lake District where the vistas we breathtaking. We arrived in Passau and got checked into our cabin. A warm welcome unpacking and an amazing dinner. Oh, and a good nights sleep in a nice bed 🙂

Again, the day began with breakfast overlooking to the Salz river. Today we enjoyed a two hour walking tour of historic Salzburg. We visited several beautiful churches of the hundred plus churches in Salzburg. We saw areas where the sound of music was filmed and where Mozart lived. Afterwards shopping was in order, you can never have enough stuff you don’t need🤪.
