Sunday: Thurs. we returned to Madrid and ate dinner with Carlos and his parents. Friday Bob and Bill returned home while rest of us drove to Santillana, on the northern coast of Spain. Along the way we stopped Burgos to visit the cathedral. Saterday we toured the old city, the ladies shopped, we toured museum of Altamira cave paintings 18,000 yrs ago. and that night attended mass in an old church built in 12 century. Wednesday: Today we will arrive in Santiago. It is raining slightly but hopefully it will clear later in the day. After and hour the rain quit until we were within and hour of Santiago. We stopped for coffee at monte do Gozo, the Mtn of joy, we are now only 5km from Santiago. It began to rain as we entered Santiago. Once there it quit raining. We presented our credentials and received the Compostela then we toured the church where the tumb of saint James the apostle rest under the main alter. Tuesday: Today we begin knowing we have one more day to Santiago. It is another beautiful day and we are ready to walk. On the Camino we encountered an amputee raising money for a new prosthesis which had a crack in the socket. I gave him the Fillauer website and called Carlos who spoke with him on the telephone. We bought some fresh bread and had a picnic lunch. We attended mass at a church operated by Italian priests. We spent the night in the hotel O Pino. Posted on October 24, 2012 by Karl Fillauer
